With football season getting underway, here’s a quick preview highlighting QB Country trainees at the NFL, college, and high school levels. Best of luck to all of our guys!

NFL Preview
Over the last two NFL drafts, we’ve had four guys drafted and all have bright futures. The 2021 class featured Mac Jones (Patriots) and Davis Mills (Texans), two of the league’s top rookies last season and game one starters this year. The 2022 class featured Bailey Zappe (Patriots) and Sam Howell (Commanders), who both shined in preseason action. QB Country’s NFL contingent also includes Giants starter Daniel Jones, Eagles #2 Gardner Minshew, Panthers #2 PJ Walker, Vikings #2 Nick Mullens, Cowboys #2 Cooper Rush, and the Titans’ Logan Woodside. We expect Mobile native AJ McCarron to be back on a roster soon as he has made a full recovery from knee surgery.

College Preview
More than 100 QB Country trained quarterbacks are on FBS (70) and FCS (32) rosters this season, making this the largest D1 contingent in our history. Add 30+ JUCO, D2, and D3 QBs and we will have our hands full keeping track of all our guys…but that won’t stop us from trying! The FBS list includes at least 22 game one starters (18% of all of college football) and a number of high-profile QBs on season award watch lists, including:

  • Stetson Bennett, Georgia (Manning Award Watch List, Davey O’Brien Award Watch List, Maxwell Award Watch List)
  • Jarrett Doege, Troy (Maxwell)
  • KJ Jefferson, Arkansas (Manning, Davey O’Brien, Maxwell)
  • Phil Jurkovec, Boston College (Maxwell)
  • Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina (Manning, Davey O’Brien, Maxwell)
  • Bo Nix, Oregon (Davey O’Brien)
  • Chris Reynolds, Charlotte (Manning, Davey O’Brien, Maxwell)
  • Will Rogers, Miss State (Manning, Davey O’Brien, Maxwell)
  • Tyler Van Dyke, Miami (Manning, Davey O’Brien, Maxwell)

Stetson and Bo face off in the opening week of the season as Georgia takes on Oregon today 9/3 at 3 PM.

Some other QBC trainee news and notes: Austin Aune (North Texas) is the oldest active FBS QB at 28 years (he spent six years in the minor leagues as a former Yankees draft pick)…UNC is keeping it in the QBC family with Drake Maye taking over as QB1 from Sam Howell (now with the Washington Commanders)…Riley Leonard (Duke) and Ty Keyes (Southern Miss) are among several young QBs who impressed in limited action last year and will now assume starting roles.

High School Preview (Class of 2023)
QB Country’s Class of 2023 includes five Elite 11 Finalists (Brock Glenn/TN, Kenny Minchey/TN, Chris Vizzina/AL, JJ Kohl/IA, Emory Williams/FL) and the two top-ranked QBs in the class, Arch Manning/LA (#1) and Vizzina (#2). While these names are the headliners, the 2023 group is loaded across the board and as deep as any class we’ve ever trained.
