College Football Week 4: QB Country Players of the Week
It was another strong week across QB Country with several QBC trainees having their best outings of the season to date, others staying hot, and a few newcomers making waves. Top performers included:
FBS Co-Players of the Week:
Bo Nix, Oregon
Bo led the Oregon offense to 22 fourth-quarter points and notched his career-high in passing yards (428) in Oregon’s thrilling 44-41 comeback road win at previously undefeated Washington State. On the day, Bo was 33-of-44 and tossed 3 TDs. He earned a Manning Award Star of the Week and was a nominee for Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week.
Drew Pyne, Notre Dame
Drew went 24-of-34 for 289 yards and 3 TDs to lead Notre Dame to an impressive 45-32 road victory over previously undefeated UNC. In his first two starts (both wins), Drew has thrown for 5 TDs, 0 INTs and is completing 72% of his passes.
First Team:
Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina
Grayson continued his strong start to the season, going 19-of-27 for 262 yards and 2 TDs and adding a rushing score in Coastal Carolina’s dominant 41-24 victory over Georgia State. Gray currently ranks fifth among FBS QBs in passing efficiency and the Chanticleers (4-0) are the lone remaining undefeated team outside of the Power 5.
Will Rogers, Mississippi State
Will went 39-of-50 for 409 yards and tied his single-game record of 6 TDs in Mississippi State’s 45-14 romp over Bowling Green. He’s tied at top the FBS leaderboard with 16 TDs through the season’s first four games – good for the Bulldogs and even better for Make-A-Wish of Mississippi, as each score nets a $1K donation from one of Will’s NIL partners to the charity.
Zach Wilcke, Southern Miss
Zack went 17-of-25 for 194 yards and 2 TDs to lead Southern Miss to an impressive 27-24 comeback victory over previously undefeated Tulane ,earning high praise from Coach Will Hall: ”He went on the road and beat a team that you could argue, statistically, was the best defensive football team in the country. I just thought he played really, really well versus an awesome defense.”
FCS Player of the Week: Eli Sawyer, SE Louisiana
Eli went 15-of-24 for 256 yards and 2 TDs – including a 59-yard game-winner on the final play – to rally SE Louisiana to a 41-35 upset win over previously undefeated #4 Incarnate Word.
