Pinson Valley senior quarterback Zach Pyron, a one-time Baylor commit, committed to Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Pyron has led his teams to three straight state titles – two at Class 2A Fyffe and the 6A title last year at Pinson Valley.

Ben Neill, who works with Pyron at QB Country in Birmingham, thinks the Yellow Jackets are a good fit for him.

“I think it’s a great fit,” he said. “Zach loved Baylor and the staff there. I think his de-commitment seemed more of a family decision than anything. They are incredibly close, and I think he wanted to stay closer to home.

“Georgia Tech is another great program. There are so many good things going on there. He feels like he can compete early. Zach is a physical quarterback, who is strong enough to make every throw on the field and does it with ease. He also can extend plays out of the pocket. He is capable of attacking the defense in several different ways, and I think that is what Georgia Tech needs.”

“He’s an incredible kid,” Neill said. “He is what I would call a very blue-collar quarterback. He loves to work hard and is very tough, very competitive and very physical. As a person, he’s very laid back and just likes to have a good time. But his version of a good time is going out on the field and working for two hours and sweating to get better.

“He’s most comfortable when he’s working hard. I think other people who have that mindset are drawn to him. Because of that, he is and will be an incredible leader. He would be a joy in my opinion to coach in a quarterback room for three or four years.”
