Jalen Tolbert embracing role as South Alabama’s go-to guy in 2021

[Jalen] Tolbert will likely benefit from working with the most-experienced quarterback he’s yet teamed up with in graduate transfer Jake Bentley. The former South Carolina and Utah quarterback has passed for 8,409 yards and 61 touchdowns in his five-year college career.

Tolbert and Bentley had a pre-existing relationship through QB Country’s David Morris, Bentley’s long-time private quarterback coach. Morris has often invited Tolbert to throw with various quarterbacks, including Bentley.

“I knew Jake beforehand, from QB country with David Morris,” Tolbert said. “So we threw a couple of times before he actually got here. And when he got here, we were eager to work. So we began doing that — whether it was up here, in the backyard, wherever. We just got some catches in and got some running in. It was good for us to get that connection early before we actually came out here for spring.”
